AAHA Conference 2016

The All Pets Veterinary Medical Center staff will be attending the AAHA Conference 2016 in Austin, Texas on March 21-April 3. This veterinary conference is great way  for our staff to experience something new and unique. It offers the opportunity for us to learn practices from other industry experts, discover the latest and greatest in products and services, and network with fellow veterinarians and technicians from around the country.

What is AAHA?

AAHA (Accredited)AAHA stands for the American Animal Hospital Association. This association accredits small animal hospitals throughout both the United States and Canada. AAHA was founded by seven leaders of the veterinary profession in 1933. It has been recognized for years as a leader for the veterinary industry and profession.

Accreditation Awareness

Many pet owners believe that their pet’s veterinary hospital is accredited when it is not because, unlike human hospitals, accreditation is not required for veterinary hospitals. Often times, requirements for accreditation surpass those required by states. State regulations for veterinary hospitals vary widely — some state examiners will never inspect a veterinary practice unless a complaint is filed. Veterinary practices that choose to be AAHA-accredited, like All Pets Veterinary Medical Center, are evaluated regularly on approximately 900 standards of care.

There are currently over 3,500 AAHA-accredited hospitals in Canada and the United States. AAHA also accredits veterinary practices within animal shelters and humane societies; and as of 2015, there were 18 accredited humane societies.

Offers World-Class Continuing Education

Additionally, AAHA also develops veterinary guidelines and position statements, publishes educational texts, and offers world-class continuing education for veterinary professionals. AAHA is also committed to helping lost pets get back to their owners — the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup tool assists pet owners and shelters determine which microchip company a chip is registered with.

What’s New at AAHA 2016?

AAHA will support Austin Dog Alliance, an Austin charity that trains therapy dogs for special needs. Donations will be raised throughout the conference for the organization’s Special Dogs for Special Needs program.

Internationally recognized multimedia artist, speaker, author and innovator Phil Hansen will share how to embrace limitations and use them as the passageway to creativity during the Opening Session keynote address.

Creator of the Six-Word Memoir® Project, Larry Smith will also be there to deliver the keynote address during the AAHA-Accredited Practice Breakfast.

Experts from the Fear FreeSM Advisory Panel of Marty Becker, DVM, will share the why and how of implementing Fear Free practices in veterinary hospitals as well.

The AAHA Chief Executive Officer Michael Cavanaugh, DVM, DABVP (C/F) will present fresh data on the best business practices during the fourth annual AAHA State of the industry presentation. The AAHA-Accredited Practice of Year award winners will also be announced.
