Today many pet owners make the responsible decision to have their cat or dog spayed, resulting in fewer homeless pets and often preventing unwanted behaviors in pets. One of All Pets Veterinary Medical Center’s premiere veterinary services is our laparoscopic spay surgery. Our team members are passionate about this surgery because it reduces the pain and discomfort of the pet by at least 65%!
Laparoscopic surgery is a less-invasive surgery method that utilizes small incisions and camera controlled medical devices to conduct surgical procedures. Laparoscopic surgery is utilized when appropriate for procedures including: spay, gastroplexy, and exploratory procedures.
There are a number of advantages to the patient with laparoscopic surgery versus an open procedure. These include:
- Reduced Hemorrhaging: Decreases possibility of surgical complications
- Smaller Incision: Reduces pain and shortens recovery time, as well as resulting in less post-operative scarring.
- Less pain: Leading to less pain medication needed.
- Reduced Stay Times: Although procedure times are usually slightly longer, hospital stay is less, and often with a same day discharge
- More Sterile Environment: Reduced exposure of internal organs to possible external contaminants thereby reduced risk of acquiring infections.
In a traditional spay procedure, the veterinarian makes an incision and pulls out the organs to make the necessary incisions. This stretching and pulling of the ligaments results in post-surgical pain for the pet involved. During a laparoscopic spay, the veterinarian makes a smaller incision, and inserts a camera to visualize the necessary incisions made internally. This greatly reduces discomfort, bleeding and swelling. Additionally, our LigaSure system effectively seals blood vessels far superior to sutures–once again meaning less swelling and bleeding!
Our quality surgeries are performed using the safest anesthesia, and your pet is monitored by our monitoring equipment as well as a trained technician to ensure they recover well post-surgery. We use heated surgery tables and kennels to keep your pet warm and comfortable during recovery, as well as advanced pain relief.
Our laparoscopic spay package comes with all the benefits and precautions a pet owner could want, such as pre-anesthetic testing to screen for internal irregularities or infection, and fluid therapy to keep organs hydrated while under anesthesia and ease them afterward.
